Trainings
The Maine Center of Excellence is responsible for training staff throughout the State of Maine, facilitators, peer support specialists, supervisors, and coaches, are trained in the HFW philosophies, principles, and practices; and providing ongoing opportunities to enhance their skills and competencies; to support implementation of the HFW, PEARLS, and Peer Connect models as intended with fidelity and high quality. Even if all BHH Providers are not prepared to adopt implementation of HFW, the COE will provide training to all care coordinators and case managers on the principles of Wraparound.
There are six learning pathways to deliver HFW and Family and Youth Peer Support in Maine.

- Maine Family Support Specialist
- Maine Family Support Supervisor
- Maine Youth Support Specialist
- Maine Youth Peer Supervisor
All pathways follow a similar process of learning and continuous feedback and are grounded in the Systems of Care and HFW principles.
Learning Pathways - High Fidelity Wraparound
Wraparound Care Coordinator
Wraparound Supervisor
The role of a BHH Wraparound Care Coordinator, sometimes called the Facilitator, is to coordinate the wraparound process and facilitate team meetings.
This learning pathway is for BHH Wraparound Care Coordinators and BHH Clinical Leads employed by Maine Behavioral Health Homes who have opted to provide High Fidelity Wraparound in accordance with MaineCare rules.
Requirements for both learning pathways
- Register with the COE as a BHH Wraparound Coordinator/Supervisor
- Complete Pre-requisite Wraparound Modules
- Complete Wraparound Training Series

Learning Pathways - PEARLS
Family Support Specialist
Family Support Supervisor
The role of a Family Support Specialist, sometimes referred to as a Peer Parent Support Partner, is to provide support to parents who are raising youth with complex needs and are required to use their own lived experience to help ensure youth and family voice and choice is part of all phases of the wraparound process.
This learning pathway is for BHH Family Support Specialists and their supervisors employed by Maine Behavioral Health Homes who have opted to provide High Fidelity Wraparound in accordance with MaineCare rules, however is open to family peer support staff working with families in other service levels throughout Maine.
Requirements for both learning pathways
- Register with the COE as a BHH Family Support Specialist/Peer Supervisor
- Complete Pre-requisite Wraparound Modules
- Complete PEARLS Training Series
- Complete Coaching and Observation Requirements

Learning Pathways - Peer Connect
Youth Support Specialist
Youth Peer Supervisor
The role of a Youth Support Specialist, sometimes called Youth Peer Support, is to provide support to other youth with complex needs and is required to use their own lived experience to help youth communicate with the team and make sure their voice and choice is respected.
This learning pathway is for all Youth Support Specialists, and their supervisors providing youth peer support throughout the State.
Requirements for both learning pathways
- Register with the COE as a Youth Support Specialist/Peer Supervisor
- Complete Peer Connect Training Series
- Complete Coaching and Observation Requirements
- Youth Support Specialists must have lived experience within systems (i.e. Mental Health, Substance Use, Corrections)
